Simple but effective for occasional use
This scanner is very basic (which also means low cost and simple to use) and
is likely to be all you need. It tells you the codes and allows you to reset
the engine malfunction light. Yes, you have to look up the number code it
gives you in a book to understand the problem, but I see that as no big deal
for something I use once every 6 months. If I used a scanner daily, I
probably would want to pay the extra one with the text for all the codes
built in.
Actron PocketScan
This product is great and saved me both money and hassle. I used it to deal
with an engine code problem prior to a smog test. It worked as promised. I
imagine it would be useful for anyone with a vehicle that is prone to
generating codes.
Scanner for diagnostic savings
It worked right away and it was easy to use after a little practice and
reading directions. Found out current and pending problems with the intake
system. Error codes need more explanation. I had to refer to the factory
manual and a decoder ring to decypher the message.
