  Lyrics

I want to live, I want to give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold
It's these expressions I never give
That keep me searchin' for a heart of gold
And I'm gettin' old
Keeps me searchin for a heart of gold
And I'm gettin' old

I've been to Hollywood, I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keeps me searchin for a heart of gold
And I'm gettin' old

Keep me searchin for a heart of gold
You keep me searchin and I'm growin old
I've been a miner for a heart of gold
Keep me searchin for a heart of gold...

Neil Young - Heart Of Gold - 1972

to Randy Travis - Forever And Ever Amen - 1988

Neil Young Trivia
"Heart of Gold" from the 1972 album Harvest is Neil Young's only number one hit single in his long musical career. Rolling Stone ranked it #297 on their list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. It features the back-up vocals of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt.

The song is one of a series of soft, acoustic pieces which were written partly as a result of a back injury. Unable to stand for long periods of time, he could not play his electric guitar and so returned to his acoustic guitar, which he could play sitting down. [1]
