"Rockin' Robin" is a 1958 song written by Leon Rene under the pseudonym Jimmie Thomas and recorded by Bobby Day in 1958. The single was Day's only hit single, becoming a No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit. The song was covered by The Hollies on their first album in 1964, Gene Vincent in 1969, and would be revived as a single again in 1972 by the teenaged Michael Jackson as his second single release on Motown. Jackson took his version to number two on the U.S. pop singles chart that year. UK singer Lolly covered this song in 1999, as the B-side to her single "Big Boys Don't Cry". It peaked at no. 10 in the UK singles chart, in December of that year. The Boys performed this song seen in a Kidsongs video: A Day with the Animals. The Miami Showband have performed this, with lead singer Gerry covering the Michael Jackson version, voice and all. "Rockin' Robin" was featured in an episode of the US version of The Office as Andy Bernard's cell phone ringtone (as sung by himself). Nowadays the song is being performed by the UK band McFly, specially at christmas time. It is a rock n roll style interpretation. [1] |
