June Valli sings her biggest hit single, Crying in the Chapel. Today the song is associated with Elvis Presely, but June's recording preceeded Elvis' by a few years, and his version is, actually a cover of June's. June was picked to replace Eileen Wilson and share the Your Hit Parade televison spotlight with Dorothy Collins, Russell Arms, Raymond Scott and Snooky Lanson. June only last one season on this ledgendary program, and was replaced in 1953 by Gisele MacKenzie with the help of her mentor, Jack Benny. Gisele continued with the show until 1957 when she resigned to star in her own television series. June Valli (Jun. 30, 1928 Bronx – Mar. 12, 1993, Fort Lee, New Jersey), the stage name of June Foglia, was an American singer and television personality. She was one of the stars of the 1950s television show Your Hit Parade. She sang on the show during the show's 1952-1953 season. At the start of the 1953-1954 season, she was replaced by singer Gisele MacKenzie. Valli recorded a number of hit songs, including "Strange Sensation" (1952), "A shoulder to cry on", "Crying in the Chapel", "Why Don't You Believe Me?" and "Unchained Melody". Throughout her career, she sang with various stars of the time, including Mel Torme and Fats Domino Valli was also the singing voice in a series of commercials for Chiquita Banana. [1]
