"A Fool in Love" is a propulsive soul single released as the debuting single for Ike & Tina Turner, released in 1960 on the Sue Records label. The song featured the first charted hit scored by Tina Turner, formerly known as Anna Mae Bullock and during the early years of her tenure with Ike and his Kings of Rhythm band, Little Ann. The song originally wasn't supposed to include vocals by Tina, who was then pregnant with Ike's child. Ike had wanted to give the song to a male vocalist in his band and when he didn't show up, Ike had Tina (still Little Ann at the time) record the song as a demo. When he went to review the song before erasing her vocals out, however, he heard Tina's soulful interpretation of it and was so inspired that he left it in, in the process changing the course of both of their careers, changing Little Ann's name to Tina Turner after the Sheena, Queen of the Jungle movie, and changing the name of the group to the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. The song was issued under the Ike and Tina pseudonym and became the duo's first hit single reaching number two on the R&B singles chart and number twenty-seven on the US pop singles chart. The first time Tina Turner performed this song on national television was on the October 3, 1960 episode of American Bandstand, while she was nine months pregnant with Ike's child. Also Tina performed this song during her last concert tour in 2000, and her performance of this song can be seen on the One Last Time concert DVD, from her Twenty Four Seven Tour. [1]
