Elton John - Princes Diana, Goodbye Englands Rose - 1997 Lyrics

Goodbye englands rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along englands greenest hills
Your candles burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Loveliness weve lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch well always carry
For our nations golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along englands greenest hills
Your candles burned our long before
Your legend ever will

Goodbye englands rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye englands rose
From a country lost without your soul
Wholl miss the wings of your compassion
More than youll ever know

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And you footsteps will always fall here
Along englands greenest hills
Your candles burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Elton John - Princes Diana, Goodbye Englands Rose - 1997 Song Music Trivia
Elton John - Princes Diana, Goodbye Englands Rose, Candle In The Wind

In early September, Taupin altered the lyrics of "Candle in the Wind" for a special version mourning the death of Diana, and John performed it at her funeral in Westminster Abbey. A recorded version, "Candle in the Wind 1997", then became the fastest- and biggest-selling single of all time, eventually selling 5 million copies in the United Kingdom, 11 million in the U.S., and around 33 million worldwide, with the proceeds of approximately £55 million going to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. It would later win John the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, an achievement he has yet to repeat. He hasn't performed the song since Princess Diana's funeral, as John stated it would only be played once to lend it significance and make it special. [1]
