"This Magic Moment" is the title of a song written by lyricist Doc Pomus and pianist Mort Shuman. It is one of their best known hits. It was first recorded by Ben E. King and The Drifters and it reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. It was rendered anew by Jay and the Americans in 1969 and ranked even higher, hitting number 6 in early 1969 and earning gold record status. Some more trivia: # Heard on the May 9, 2005 episode of the Soap Opera As the World Turns # Heard in the closing credits of episode 17, "Vision Thing", of the HBO original series Big Love # A cover by Lou Reed appeared in both the film and on the soundtrack to Lost Highway (1997). # The song is the opening song for the stage version of Dirty Dancing.
